Some serious Ducked up stories are about to be launched
Pause reality and dive into the unexpected with these short stories filled with offbeat twists and relatable situations
Nola Bel is launching her debut volume of short stories – Ducked up stories – a collection of 5 twisted narratives starring female protagonists with effervescent identities that are struggling with finding themselves behind their given labels. The book will be published on Amazon on March 8th, 2023.
The 5 stories of the first volume of „Ducked up stories” present strong female protagonists with a humorous note, while they struggle to recenter their internal GPS: Ana is subject to the horrible prophecy of her own death, Fifi tries to love herself despite the fact that nobody seems to do so, Kefi is in between remembering and forgetting her past, not able to decide which one is best, Maria Lucia fights her whole town to save a boy and Beren tries to accept the secrets that her husband hasn’t buried along with him.
„Ducked up stories” started as a catharsis and as an exercise to turn self-pity into self-irony and change the perspective from victim to fighter, whether the villains in the stories were threatening the physical or psychological well-being of the characters. They naturally developed into a collection starring a remix of real stories of hurt, created by all sorts of everyday villains, seduced by power, overwhelmed by their gigantic egos, or blinded by their own suffering.

The stories take place in various parts of the world and this is another intentional move of Nola Bel’s quest to celebrate diversity and increase acceptance. With different cultural backgrounds and diverse triggers, the characters share a common fight: to get better at being themselves. This mission is also shared by the following characters of the next volumes, also centered on social issues: toxic families, condemned sexuality, or rejected immigrants.
“Filled with diverse characters and their unique voices, these weird situations powered by storytelling aim to create awareness of empathy and compassion. Don’t compare it to literary masterpieces, and don’t consider it a self-help book. This is just a light read to ease heavy emotions”, Nola Bel explains.
Nola Bel is an anagram for No Label. The writer behind the pseudonym might be a home-schooled snake milker from Nevada, living near the desert on her own. She became interested in writing twisted stories after she dreamed that one of her snakes turned into her and nobody could tell who was the real Nola Bel. Ducked up stories aren’t her first writing tentative, but the previous attempts have been suffocated by her Anaconda. She is now in the process to develop the new volumes of the series.

Aceasta prima editie de povestiri scurte ale lui Nola Bel intra sub ghidoul post modernismului si prin ea putem reinvata cum sa traim trairile si sentimentele pe cont propriu si, in acelasi timp, sa reflectam asupra problematicii sociale pe care omul modern le infrunta. Ducked up stories este clar o modalitate interesanta si provocatoare de a privi realitatea! Asteptam cu entuziasm publicarea volumului pe 8 martie 2023.
Aceste povesti cu o nota de umor si pline de provocari cu care protagonistele se lupta sa-si gaseasca propriul lor drum sunt exact ce am asteptat. Abia astept sa citesc volumul lui Nola Bel si promisiunea de a deveni mai bun in a fi chiar eu. Ducked Up Stories pare sa fie cea mai buna optine pentru a ne perfectiona abilitatile de a accepta diversitatea si sansa de a transforma mila in propria ironie. Haideti sa urmarim impreuna povestirile sale si sa avem parte de aceste momente emotionante si de ocazii de ras.
